Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan

Julie Andrews, Babs Streisand, Linda Hunt, Hilary Swank have all been nominated for (or have won) Academy Awards for playing men or women pretending to be men. Cate Blanchett, I'm sure, will be another one.

We all perform gender. Some of us 'do gender' better than others.

She has way better hair than Bob ever did. Prolly bigger huevos, too. (I know that's wrong, but I'm still pissed at him for dissing Joan Baez).

Who would I play as a dude?

Who would you play as a woman?

Good hair has probably won Academy Awards before, no?

You left out Gwyneth.

I'm not buying that "some of us 'do gender' better than others," btw. Perhaps you're referring to a kind of spectrum for which people hit either end with better consistency.

Or maybe what you're referring to is some people hit cultural norms better than others.

How's that for a push?
